The Essential Field Guides series will develop various projects:
The Essential Field Guide to Lifeline Media based on Loretta Hieber's book Lifeline Media: reaching populations in crisis - A guide to developing media projects in conflict situations The new guide will take into account trends and developments in conventional and social media over the past decade and how the international community is now reaching out to crisis-affected populations. It will include the work of scores of local actors from around the world (Kenya, South Africa. Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Brazil...) coupled with the activities of key international media organizations such as Internews, BBC Trust, IWPR, IMGG, ICFJ and others.
About the guide: In conflict situations and humanitarian crises, it is often ordinary people uprooted by disaster who are most in need of timely information, and yet those affected by disaster are frequently left in the dark. Loretta Hieber provides crucial insights concerning effective strategies to enable essential communications during humanitarian disasters.
